I just made a short list of things that I would love to do this summer.
See Mt. Rushmore
Attend SheSpeaks
Purchase all new towels
Pay off one student loan
Hike the Rockies
Visit an Amish community and buy lots of homemade breads, veggies and various items
Take the kids to Disneyland
Spend a weekend boating on a lake
Buy a stainless steel trash can (sheeze-louise! Those things are expensive!)
Take Mr. Right to a concert
Relax for a week in Mexico
Spend time with several bloggers
Go to Memphis for some out-of-this-world BBQ
Visit family
Eat Chinese from my favorite Chinese restaurant almost every day
However, all these things take money that I either don’t have or can’t spend right now.
What would you do this summer if money weren’t in the way? Or if you’d rather, what are you going to do this summer? Just because we’re not going anywhere, that doesn’t mean that I can’t live vicariously through you…
That’s a great list. I’ll bet you could get more than a few of those knocked out, and some without spending too much money.
If gas wasn’t quite so pricey, I’d like to go home to Tampa and visit with friends and family. Alas, that’s a little far at $4/gallon.
Watch the sales for your stainless steel trash cans – we got ours on sale for less than $20 each. Of course, we bought them at Canadian Tire, and I don’t think you have that there.
Okay, I’d like to take my kids to Disney World and I’d like to take a family trip down to Toronto to visit relatives and take the kids to the zoo, and we’d like to take them to Holland to visit relatives while they’re still alive. But wishin’ ain’t doin’, right?
I would love to go home. My parents live so far away that to see them once a year is an accomplishment. We won’t even get that this year. 😦
We do talk on the phone every week though so that helps!!!
You have such a fun list!!
Costco had a great stainless steel trash can for a fairly decent price.
I’d join on a few of those excursions. And the rocky mountains, well if you’re going to hike those, you have to make it so that you come hike the Canadian ones close to my house. I’ll join you on that too.
My list? I’d do the Mexico thing too. We were going to try for this year, but it isn’t happening.
-I need new towels too.
-Throw in a few sets of sheets and duvet covers while you’re at it.
-I love to go to Europe if funds were unlimited.
-I’d love to take the Amtrak train holiday that goes through the Rocky Mountains here.
-I’d love to take the whole summer off and just take it easy
I better stop or this could go on and on and obviously the funds don’t. :v)
Vicarious is the catch word in my life too, so here goes my dream list:
Go on a girly weekend — pamper, relax, etc.
Hear the ocean roar
Have each room in my house painted . . . by someone else
Come into a large inheritance
Travel anywhere I wanted, anytime I wanted.
Buy new furniture for each bedroom in our home.Everyone needs one item or another, or both : )
Get an extreme makeover, from the tip of my summer frizzy hair to the tips of my scraggily polished toenails.
I could go on, but I don’t want to entirely monopolize your comments.
Thanks for an inspiring wish list.
I love the list! We aren’t really going on a family vacation this year. We gave the kid the choice of Disney next year and no family vacation this year or Disney in two years and a small family vacation this year. Guess which one they chose? Watch out Mickey we are headed your way! Good luck on trying to fit in some of the things on your list.
If money weren’t a part of the equation, I’d definitely be taking my family hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. We usually visit there every year. I haven’t been for nearly 2 years and I’m missing it! But, this summer it’s just not in the works. Thankfully, we operate a Rocky enthusiast website, and we live vicariously through all the people that do go when they share their pictures and trip reports with us!
Whatever you do this summer, I hope it’s a good one for you!
I have been blessed with a tremendous summer of travel this year. Believe me, this is not the norm!
We have been to the beach twice (once for an anniversary weekend and once for a ‘business’ trip where the family was included). I am heading to Atlanta for Deeper Still next weekend. (A girls weekend purchased almost a year ago!) And finally our family will be returning to the beach for a week on the 4th of July. This is only our second week long vacation in the past twenty years! It helps that we live on the Texas Gulf Coast…the beach is less than two hours away.
Great list!
Linens and Things by Oak Park Mall is going out of business and has everything on clearance…maybe you could score a stainless steel trashcan there? And there are several Amish communities about an hour or so away — close enough for a half day trip on a nice day when you don’t have anything else going on! And you can hang out with me…and eat chinese — look, a whole 4 things off your list! 🙂
I feel like I have a million things that I would like to do this summer, if money and time were no object. Among them: travel Europe and take a road trip. Although truth be told I would settle for just feeling like I am not behind on everything!
There are oh so many things I would love to do this summer but they probably won’t happen either. Life is kind of crazy that way, huh? Maybe we should start up a fund for the two of us and our families :o)
Hey Shalee-
I could help you with your dream to hike in the Rockies…cheaper. You could come and stay with us (so I guess the gas would be your biggest expense) but we have a guest room…actually 2. We will feed you, pack you lunches for your hike…we live 45 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park…and we know the best trails for hiking with kids, best trails for “low-landers” and the best scenic places to see. We explore every summer and take notes of trails to tell people who come and stay with us. We would love to have you come and visit! Think about it, and let us know if you want to come!
Hugs,
Suzi
